Enjoy and Achieve

science classroomTeaching and Learning

We encourage all our students to aim high. Our qualified and experienced staff plan suitably challenging lessons to ensure we can constantly assess their progress towards GCSE and A Level.

To ensure there are no "assumptions" about students' knowledge or their ability to learn, all students are continually monitored to ensure they are on target to surpass their expected GCSE grades. Students will have external examinations in each term through years 10 and 11 - these marks and the course work will count towards their final GCSE grades.

Attendance and Attainment

The College operates a policy of ‘every day matters, every lesson counts’ and students attendance is monitored throughout the day via electronic registration. In addition the College uses ‘Truancy Call’ which alerts parents on the first day of absence if notification has not been received from home.

A continuous record of student progress is kept throughout the College year. Students in danger of under-achieving are quickly identified and strategies are put into place to get them back on track.

The student’s own self assessment of his/her progress is included in the documentation from subject staff for the Progress Review days. Parents and students are invited in to discuss progress made and the relevant targets needed to continue to progress.
