Students attend Higher Attaining Pupils Day

On Thursday 23rd February, a group of 10 students from year 10 and 11 were selected to attend the North West Leicestershire School Sports Partnership’s Higher Attaining Pupils Day as a reward for their participation and performance in extra-curricular sport.

The trip started with a tour of the outstanding Loughborough University facilities and allowing students to watch some Great Britain athletes train. This was followed by a presentation from Great Britain triathlete on the ‘Life of an elite athlete’, giving an insight into the day-to-day lifestyle of an elite athlete. The talk discussed; Nutrition, Training, Competition and balancing sports with studying. The students then had a workshop on sport science and the impact it has on elite sports performance. A range of topics were covered including; Nutrition, Sports Psychology & Performance Analysis. Finally, the group received a practical coaching session from Loughborough University Volleyball coaches.

The students had a fantastic day and had a chance to experience the life of an elite sportsperson. They were able to see all the opportunities that are available with a career in sport.
