On Sunday 15th January 27 students went with the PE department to the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham to witness the Basketball Men’s and Women’s cup finals. It was an amazing day with some top quality Basketball on show in both games. Georgia Jones and Rheanne Bailey were the stand out performers as the Manchester Mystics won their first women’s final vs Nottingham Wildcats, and celebrated wildly in emotional scenes. Meanwhile, Rahmon Fletcher and DeAndre Parks were unstoppable as Newcastle Eagles continued their domination of the men’s event by beating Glasgow Rocks. Students were in awe at the quality of the men’s final in particular, with highlight reel after highlight reel play. In another awe-inspiring moment, the slam dunk competition saw players from around the world jumping over other 6 footers to dunk forwards, backwards, sideways and any which way but loose!

Many students were busy on social media sharing their highlights of the day, whilst Miss Sharp, aged adult, bought and pointed a foam finger.

My thanks to the PE department for their support on what was an amazing trip, and to the students for their exemplary behaviour throughout.
