Matilda The Musical Champion

The college is both proud and excited to announce, that after selection by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Curve Theatre Leicester, they are now officially a Matilda the Musical Champion School.

Across the county only four schools were chosen and King Edward VII, is the only secondary school.

This title means the college gets the fantastic opportunity to use the official logo, as well as scripts and music from the West End show.

Performing Arts staff, Mrs Shardlow (drama), Miss Carter (dance) and Miss Oxborough (music), have attended workshops hosted by musical directors, stage directors and choreographers from the West End production of Matilda The Musical. The workshop has given the teachers techniques and skills to use with students to ensure they put on an amazing performance.  The directors and choreographers also visited the college on 22nd May and carried out a workshop with performing arts staff and students, further workshops are set to happen at the college in June and July.

The musical is an adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl novel, Matilda. A well know and popular book about a young girl, neglected by her parents and terrified by the school Principle Miss Trunchball. Things however begin to change for Matilda when she discovers she has the power of telekinesis.

Matilda The Musical is set to be a show stopping production, and will be shown in the Harley Theatre, December 2018.
