Remembrance assembly

To mark Remembrance Day 2019, the college put on a special assembly and had the honour of welcoming several veterans from The Royal British Legion's in Whitwick and Ibstock.

The assembly took place on 12th November in the college hall. The assembly was emotional and thought provoking; it began with the veterans stood on stage against a backdrop of poppies, facing the on looking students. Mr Hills (teacher of history) and sixth form students then told the audience about some local history relating to the World Wars including details of people involved who lived locally. The sixth form dancers impressed the assembly with a dance inspired by war and some of the sixth form musicians played the well-known piece, The Last Post.

Students who are part of armed forces cadets were able to come into college in their cadet uniform. After the assembly, the veterans chatted to staff and students, showing them treasured photos and telling them about their experiences.
