Revision Evening 2019
On 8th October, a revision support evening was held in the main school hall. Parents were presented with recent research findings on how memory works. Cognitive science informs us that in order to store information in long term memory, students need to test themselves regularly. Staff at King Edward VII are fully aware of the demands placed on students in remembering content of the ’knowledge curriculum’ .
Research findings are clear. The earlier students engage with effective revision activities, the closer they are to achieving their target GCSE grades. Parental support is essential in encouraging students to revise at home.
Practical advice can be found on the presentation PowerPoint uploaded onto the college website. We have also uploaded leaflets summarising the benefits of specific revision techniques.
Studying for GCSEs and A Levels can bring along additional pressure, so we have also uploaded information on maintaining a healthy mind as the examination period approaches.
Parental feedback from the evening was overwhelmingly positive. We intend to roll the information evening out to parents and students of year 10 and Sixth Form before the Christmas holiday.
Thank you to everyone who attended.
