Care and Guidance...
...from the first day of their educational journey
The transfer from a secondary school to any college can be a stressful time for many students. To make the transition as smooth as possible, our relationship with our prospective students starts well before they start at King Edward VII.
We have long standing special relationships with the three feeder schools from which the majority of our pupils come - Castle Rock, Newbridge and Ibstock. Many of our staff, as well as current King Edward students make regular visits to meet the school children, allowing them to ask questions and make return visits to King Edward to build their sense of excitement in moving to their new school. We aim to ensure that from their first day, stability of relationships and trust follows through. With Open Evenings and Induction Days, good communication and planning between our staff and those of the feeder schools, you can be sure that we are dedicated to your childs well-being. This collaboration has been commended in our most recent OFSTED report.
"The college enjoys outstanding links with neighbouring schools so that transfer at age of 14 is smooth. Another strong feature is its partnership work with parents and the wider community".
"Students' care, guidance and support is good".
(Ofsted May 2007)
Our aim is to provide a supportive and secure environment in which all students can experience success. There are up to 15 tutor groups (of 25-29 students) in each year. At Key Stage 4 each tutor group has two tutors who have the initial responsibility for overseeing and monitoring the welfare and progress of students in the group. Each Year is headed by a Year Head and a non-teaching Student Manager who provide an effective and efficient system of pastoral care and student welfare. Two Vice Principals, two Assistant Principals and the Principal complete the pastoral team.
