Specialist School
The Specialist Schools Programme helps schools, in partnership with private sector sponsors and supported by additional Government funding, to establish distinctive identities through their chosen specialisms and achieve their targets to raise standards.
Specialist schools have a special focus on those subjects relating to their chosen specialism but must also meet the National Curriculum requirements and deliver a broad and balanced education to all students. King Edward VII College was successful in gaining dual specialism in Science and Sport, at our first attempt, in 2005 and was redesignated in 2008.
As such we are dedicated to creating a challenging environment which raises the quality of teaching and learning in science, sport and mathematics, leading to whole school improvement. We aim to be a centre of excellence in scientific, technological, enterprising and vocational education.
Our learners are provided with pathways to develop the skills needed to be active citizens within an increasingly scientific world and to progress into employment, further training and higher education according to their individual abilities, aptitudes and ambitions. We are active partners in the North West Leicestershire learning society, sharing resources and disseminating good practice.
We have successfully raised both participation rates and standards in physical education (PE) and sport for all our students. We are a regional focal point for promoting excellence in PE and community sport, hosting the area School Sports Co-ordinator and extending the use of our facilities to a range of community groups.
