    Aim Higher trip to Oxford

A group of Gifted and Talented students had the chance to attend a taster day at Oxford University in May. Students at Oxford UniversityThis is a fantastic opportunity to experience university life in an informal yet structured way.

The day begins with a talk on what the university expects students to achieve in terms of GCSE grade (lots of A*s) and advises the best combinations of A levels to take for different degree courses.

The students then join an undergraduate of one of the colleges and we are given a tour of their college. This year our guide was studying English Literature at St. Edward’s Hall and had studied last year at New College in Leicester.

Students at Oxford UniversityThe students have time to sit with their guide and ask questions about studying at Oxford and we are given a bit of history about the college and all the extra-curricular activities that are available. After lunch the students are given a taster of a what a lecture is like. Last year we attended a Physics lecture but this year we had the opportunity of exploring the Pitt Rivers Museum (situated within the Natural History Museum). As part of the School of Anthropology, the students were given several artefacts and they had to locate similar ones within the museum, it was fascinating.   Students at Oxford University

The day was completed with a scavenger hunt with a difference around Oxford where the students had to find different objects/buildings and take photos. It was a fantastic opportunity and we all left Oxford truly inspired.
