Post 16 Curriculum

Education after 16 is open to all who wish to extend their skills and enhance their qualifications. An increasing number of students continue their education to 18 or 19 in preparation for employment and higher education. A large number of King Edward VII Post 16 students go on to Higher Education having been encouraged to select university courses which best meet their educational needs.

Advanced Level and equivalent—2 year courses
In Year 12 most advanced level students will take 4 or 5 subjects taken from:

Art
Biology
BTEC National Performing Arts
BTEC National Sport
Business
Chemistry
ICT
3D Design
English Language
English Literature
French
Geography
History
Mathematics and Further Maths
Media Studies
Photography
Physics
Psychology
Sociology
Textiles

One Year Courses - GCSE Applied and BTEC First
Post-16 students are able to take BTEC First courses in Sport, Business, and Art and Design.
These courses:
Are the equivalent of four GCSE passes at Grade C
Will involve work experience
Enable students to improve grades or acquire additional GCSE subjects (eg English and Maths).
Are largely assessed through portfolio work with unit assessments.
Can be combined with one AS level.

Some students chose to take the “Pre-Voc” course which includes some units of the Foundation GNVQ in Health and Social Care.

Post-16 students have the opportunity to take part in residential visits as part of their courses which greatly enrich their experience, and contribute to the quality of their work.
